Helena Machulová

The article deals with the Christian roots of contemporary social work. Using the example of the classical Christian conception of acts of mercy, it shows that the basis of Christian help to one's neighbour is a proper understanding of the human person and his place in society. It also points to the similarities and differences of contemporary social work and Christian charity work.
The Concept of Capability Approach and Its Implications Strengthening the Humanity of (not only) Social Work
Karel Řezáč
Caritas et veritas 2019, 9(2):49-60 | DOI: 10.32725/cetv.2019.024
In today's world we are increasingly confronted with the idea that success is expressed in numbers and material wealth. Deeper human values are somehow losing significance and prestige. The risks of such a situation are obvious at first sight. Those who are not economically productive can be seen as a burden in the process of pursuing economic prosperity. This economisation, seen from the perspective of social work, carries the dangerous situation where the social environment is deprived of responsibility for the care of social equality and justice. The capability approach is a concept that draws attention to these risks and offers a humanity concept...
The Importance of Helping Professionals from the Point of View of Economic Theory Development
Jaroslav Šetek
Caritas et veritas 2019, 9(2):73-85 | DOI: 10.32725/cetv.2019.026
In developed market economies, the importance of the tertiary and quaternary spheres accelerates over the primary and secondary spheres. This is clearly proven by the data of macroeconomic indicators such as the largest share in the area of services concerning the gross domestic product and in the area of employment in the economy. An integral part of the service sector is also helping professions intended for the interest groups of the population. According to the original theoretical concepts of Adam Smith and Karl Marx, the classics of economic theory, these professions are not the creators of the wealth of society. Their 'unproductive work' is...

Christian Teacher in a Secularized School: Research into the Teachers' Relationship to the Contents of the Faith in the Liberec Region from the Perspective of Theocentric and Anthropocentric Humanism
Michal Podzimek
Caritas et veritas 2019, 9(2):143-162 | DOI: 10.32725/cetv.2019.031
The study summarizes the results of research conducted among Christian teachers in secular schools in the Liberec region in the first quarter of 2019. The research analyzes the relationship of believing teachers to the official teaching of the Church. The tested hypothesis follows the relationship between official orthodoxy and the secular form of orthopraxy. The tension between the norm and its fulfillment in practice is indirectly shown by the real humanism of the respondents. Its evaluation is included in the research.
