Reflection and self-reflection in qualifying education in social work as a path to harmonious personality development among workers

According to the Global Definition of Social Work, social work is both an academic discipline and a practice-based profession that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Fulfilling this mission places high demands on the personality of social workers and their professional and personal development, to which the cultivation of reflection and self-reflection contributes greatly. In this text, we explore ways in which the ability to reflect and self-reflect can be promoted and deepened in students. The core reflection model and the ALACT model are proposed as suitable concepts for supporting reflection. We demonstrate the applicability of both concepts in teaching using the example of diaries from the period of quarantine associated with online teaching of students during the COVID-19 pandemic, which we processed through thematic analysis. The analysis shows that both concepts allow for the identification of layers of the core model and an understanding of the dynamics of the relationship between self-reflection and personal and professional development. Finally, recommendations for working with this model in teaching are formulated.
