The Image of Man in Gaudium et Spes and Its Practical Interpretation by Pope Francis

The paper first reviews the most important statement of Chapter 1 of the Pastoral Constitution Gaudium et Spes on the "Dignity of the Human Person". Next, with reference to the topic of atheism and religious freedom, it shows how the council itself sets this image of man in its pastoral considerations which are also important for the presence of the Church in contemporary society. Finally, the paper engages in a practical interpretation of the conciliar image of man in our time.
